dsabo > "One fish,two fish, red fish.." One lone red fish in a school of goatfish on the "Wreck of the Chikuzen", Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands. The Chikuzen is situated 12 miles NW of Virgin Gorda surrounded by miles of sand, making it a "fish magnet" since it is the only place for marine life to congregate nearby. It's open ocean location, swells and surge can make the dive challenging but the rewards are well worth it.

dsabo > "Favorite Hangout" This St. Kitts shallow reef coral outcropping provides a temporary safe haven for this school of bluestriped grunts (Haemulon sciurus)

dsabo > "Hal-Is that You?" Alien like close up of pufferfish off of a Roatan, Bay Island reef.

dsabo > "St. Vincent Reef" Red finger sponges, a feather duster, a black spiny sea urchin, damselfish, blackbar soldierfish, azure tube sponge, sea whip, encrusting sponge, vase sponge, and a red gorgonian can be found in this image.

dsabo > "Have House will Travel" A red hermit crab spotted on a night dive off of Nevis, the sister island to St. Kitts. Hermit crabs are unique in that they must find and use a shell from another creature. A hermit crab carries this "borrowed" shell around with them, and the shell protects their soft abdomen and holds and regulates moisture within the shell (important for the function of the gills for breathing).

Some hermit crabs will change shells often while others like the Ecudorian hermit crab will stick with the same shell for many years.

dsabo > "Flamingo Tongue" This flamingo tongue (a small sea snail) was found out on a purple sea fan during a night dive. The leopard spots is actually a layer of the snail's living tissue which is on the outside of the shell. This tissue works like a fish's gills, exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide with the water so the snail can breathe.

dsabo > "Jobah" What the Longlure Frogfish,( Antennarius multiocellatus) lacks in mobility he (or she) makes up for with ingenuity. A frogfish swims poorly (more like a hop) so it plants itself in a sponge or on a rock and waits for his meal, dangling the long white lure to attract his next dinner. This frogfish was found in Dominica,Windward Isles on Castle Comfort reef.

dsabo > "Hawksbill Turtle" I have a lot of turtle images but I am quite fond of this particular image since it is a head on shot, flappers in motion, taken from a diver's POV.

dsabo > Fijian Shrimp" Unidentified shrimp found in Fiji off the island of Kadavu. This was not the easiest image to get, not because of the elusiveness of this tiny little guy but because my scuba tank was coming out of its harness and floating up towards the top of my head which probable would have made for another interesting shot.
